Challenging Attitudes : Changing Behaviours


Our Vision is that:

  1. All Youth Offending Teams, Police Officers and other likely to be involved in anti-social behaviour prevention to be trained to question whether there may be ASD, ADHD and other communication difficulties with associated behaviour disorders, present.
  2. Political messages are modified to be less exclusive with 'zero tolerance' being dropped as the campaign mantra.
  3. 'Naming and Shaming' of children is newspapers ceases.
  4. Children with behavioural problems are assessed to ascertain whether a communication or learning difficulty is present and appropriate intervention put in place.
  5. All teachers in mainstream education receive basic training, including coping strategies, for working with children with behaviour problems arising from communication and learning difficulties.
  6. Adequate classroom support is afforded to allow teachers to teach and include thise with communication and learning difficulties effectively.

Our Aims and Objectives are:

  1. Target the political, educational, health and social care decision and policy makers and primary budget holders to address the key converns as identified by families.
  2. To generate media coverage to work in influencing public perception of what 'anti-social behaviour' is, in relation to individuals with communication and learning difficulties.
  3. Improving awareness with relevant statutory bodies about how learning and communication difficulties can affect children and young people in a way that results in challenging behaviours.
  4. Work towards achieving the ultimate benefit for parents with children who have learning difficulties of being able to access needed support services within their local community.
  5. Raise public awareness beyong the myths of "bad-parenting" and "naughty children"
